Blargon Archaeology
This game is a submission for Mini Jam 149, Thank you for playing!
The Game's Story
You are a Blargonion Archaeologist exploring the ruins of the third plant from the star Sol. There appears to have been an intelligent civilization that lived on the planet many millennia ago, however all that remains is the ruins of their civilization. In attempts to study and learn more you are assisting your computer decoding software to create translations of the ancient language that seemed to be popular among humans called "English" into your native Blargonion tongue.
Controls and Instruction Guide
This game is a wordle clone with the twist that all the words are written in the alien language. Letters do not directly translate so you will have to use the hints from your decoding software decipher what the spelling will be in Blargonion.
Click on Blargonion letters in the input dial to formulate a guess. All words in Blargonion are 5 letters long. When you submit a guess it will pull a tally from your available guesses.
Color Key:
Letters in Green - right letter, right position
Letters in Yellow - letter in word, but in wrong position
Letters in Gray - letter is not in the word
Thoughts on the Game
When thinking about this game I thought I would play a twist on Ancient written alien language and make it so that English was the Ancient language that you had to translate into an alien language. Combining that with the mechanics of mastermind or Wordle seemed like it could be a silly way to produce a "translator device". Originally I had plans to make some small cut scenes to incorporate the story into the game, as well as scale the difficulty by making multiple different alien languages with more letters and longer words, but I only had Sunday to work on the Jam so many features and art that I wanted to add got cut. However despite that I feel pretty good in doing what I had set out to do. My biggest goal for this jam was trying to learn better how to scope out something small and manageable and not letting myself get caught up with every feature that I wanted to implement. I'm glad I did because I did run into a couple of snags that put me in a time crunch near the end, but I was still able to get something functional together and submitted in time.
I hope you enjoy playing it and I would appreciate any feedback!
